Greetings Marines, I want to thank all members and
guests for their participation at Tuesday's meeting.
Please continue to share all of your good ideas with us,
our detachment can, and will, benefit from everyone's
contributions.
Be
sure to inform all of your friends to register to vote
by 12 Oct, if they have not already done so. Early
voting starts on 16 Oct, so be sure to make it to the
polls to select the candidates of your choice.
Our
detachment elections will be held at the Nov 02 monthly
meeting, so be sure to make plans to attend. As we all
can tell by the change in the weather, winter is
approaching, so check the furnace, and all the items
needed for a Northern Nevada winter.
Be
safe, and Semper Fi,
Rich

Meeting
Minutes for 5 October 2010
Marine
Corps League, Battle Born Detachment 672 , held at VFW
Post 9211, 255 Veterans Memorial Drive, Reno, NV
89509-5429
The
Detachment received a thank you letter from Devil Pups
of America for the sum of $1425, which sponsored three
people in the Devil Pups Program.
Ken also
received an email from Cheryl Gardner advising that
Maggie Wise, a wheelchair bound life member of the
Marine Corps League wants to attend meetings but needs
assistance. Maggie lives at 4465 Boca Way in Reno.
Marine
Corps Ball applications should be filled out by 20 Oct
but will be accepted as late as 3 Nov.
Gy Sgt
Stryffeler and 1st Sgt Noel will be available at the
reserve center until 15:00to 16:00 Monday through
Friday. We have one of the Peppermill’s best ballrooms,
the Capri, reserved for the ball so that there will be
heads and any other need at our immediate disposal and
we will not be scaring the rest of the population.
Paymaster’s
Report:
We
expended an appreciable sum of money to build up our
supply of hot sauce, which is now 398 bottles.
The air
races yielded $1,425 in tips, just enough to cover our
commitment to send three to the Devil Pups Program. The
check from JP is pending so the amount is not known but
if like last year it should be about $1,400.
Ken is
staying away from CD’s as the interest rate is so
pitiful. All the money is in money market accounts and
checking.

Obamacare:
if you are in the VA system and have your VA card you
are good to go and do not have to purchase any
additional insurance or pay a penalty.
The
Commandant will be working the election in November so
the Sr. Vice will preside over the meeting.
12 Oct is
the last day you can register to vote. The
Commandant will be working the election and will be out
of town 4 Nov to 14 Nov.
Report of
standing committees:
Jim Snyder
reports that The Stand Down to help Vets has been pushed
back until 22 Oct, that there will be a table there to
represent the MCL, and that chits from the Hands of Hope
food bank can be purchased for $5.00 each. Each chit
will feed a serviceman’s family for one week. Veterans
and servicemen’s days are Tuesdays 18:30 to 20:00 and
Saturdays. All that is needed to access the GI food bank
is proof of current or past service.
They still
need clothing donations. They are expecting over 200
vets this year.
Jim Snyder
made a motion to donate $100 to the food bank; the
motion was seconded by I and passed.
Participation in the Stand Down and Hands of Hope counts
as one of the four causes that we need to set up a
WalMart stand. The next occasion for a booth/tent at the
Kietzke WalMart is 30 Oct and volunteers are still
needed. This is expected to make $800 to $1,000 per day
and they will supply the lunch.
We will
have a table at the 30th Annual Home Show 15 to 17 Oct.
The hours will be Fri 12:00 to 21:00, Sat 12:00 to
19:00, and Sun 12:00 to 17:00. Paul reports that we have
398 bottles of hot sauce.
The
Commandant reminds us that it is not too early to start
looking for participants for the Devil Pups Program.
Larry
Mullins, Rich Olsen, and Ken Santor went out to the NNVC and installed
the 24 hour lights, and replaced the fraying flags with
a US flag and a USMC flag.
Larry also
reports that there is a hole in the wall and it will not
last another year.
